Designing Basic Cards

A homemade greeting card is only limited by your imagination. Feel free to put your artistic abilities to use and create a one-of-a-kind greeting card. Who knows, your creation may appear in our Example Page!

DIMENSIONS AND DIRECTIONS

For consistency and to fit our envelopes, please do not make cards any larger a typical quater fold card. Simply cut your standard 8 1/2 by 11 paper in half and fold the two remaining pieces to create 2 cards. See below.

DIRECTIONS

1. Place paper on the table so that the 11 side is on the top and the 8 1/2 side is on the side. Cut cardstock in half to create a rectangle measuring about 5 1/2 on the top by 8 1/2   Using these dimensions, you may also create shapes, like trucks, houses, hearts, etc. as long as you keep in mind that they must fit into a small envelope.

2. Fold the card in half so that the two 5 1/2 sides touch creating a card measuring about 5 1/2 by 4. You should be able to make 2 cards from each piece of card stock.

3. Create your unique card on the front, but try to leave the interior blank (this is where your military member will write home to their family).  You may include a line or two that expresses the sentiment of the card, but try to make sure the majority of the space is reserved for the member to write their own greeting to their family).

4. You may use embellishments such as, but not limited to, brads, ribbon, jewels, eyelets, etc.  Keep in mind that these cards need to be sent to Afghanistan and back, so using a strong glue or adhesive is advised.
